One change from Eddie Howe? – Predicted Newcastle team vs Southampton

Premier League football is back and it’s a big chance for Newcastle United to bounce back from last Saturday’s 4-1 battering at home to Bournemouth.

Today we face a trip to bottom of the table Southampton, who have picked up just six points all season and conceded a whopping 19 goals in their last five home games in the league.

Nick Pope could be back in the squad, but Callum Wilson, Harvey Barnes and Jamaal Lascelles have all been ruled out.

Here’s the side we think Eddie Howe will go with, featuring one change:

Predicted line-up

(4-3-3): Dubravka – Livramento, Schar, Burn, Hall – Bruno, Tonali, Joelinton – Murphy, Isak, Gordon.

For me, the big dilemma is at centre-back, where Howe is left to pick between Botman, Schar and Burn.

I can’t see Burn being dropped after a rare off day for him last weekend and Howe commented on Friday that Botman had a few days off this week to help him recover from fatigue.

Considering Schar’s creativity from deep could help us cut open a Southampton side that’s often wide open, I think the Swiss could come back in for this one

I can’t see Pope coming straight back into the side – that would be a huge slap in the face for Dubravka – and feel our midfield and front three looks pretty well set, despite late rumours of Isak being unwell.

One outside shout is Trippier in at right-back for his superior quality in possession, but it feels like Livramento has that right-back spot nailed down.
