Newcastle sanction permanent transfer for Toon talent – despite impressing Eddie Howe

Newcastle United continue to focus on outgoings ahead of next Monday’s deadline, with a young midfielder set to join Miguel Almiron out of the exit door.

The Paraguayan is close to sealing a $12m (£9.65m) return to Atlanta United after six years Tyneside and it looks like a local lad will follow him after returning from a loan spell and approaching the final six months of his contract.

The Magpies are unlikely to add to their squad this month with a view to spending nearer the June 30 PSR deadline, but the latest exit may not be the final one of the window with Sean Longstaff and Lloyd Kelly also linked with departures.

Miley senior set for exit

Jamie Miley is on the verge of joining National League side Hartlepool United after being recalled from his loan spell at Newport County earlier this month to find him a permanent home.

The youngster has been training with Pools this month and was spotted in attendance during their one-all draw with Woking on Saturday after his time in Wales was cut short.

Miley is out of contract this summer and, despite impressing in a 4-0 win over Girona in pre-season, has had injury struggles that have hampered his young career so far.

Speaking after Miley’s impressive display against the La Liga side last summer, Howe said: “He very composed on the ball and very diligent off the ball, I thought he really helped us.

“Good tactically which isn’t easy for someone so young to come in and deliver that. As always with Jamie, he’s very level-headed and calm. That will have been a big moment in his career and I was delighted with how he did.”

An energetic and positive-thinking part of the engine room, hopefully the local lad can use his time closer to home to kickstart his career in non-league before taking the step back up to the Football League.

Another unsuccessful loan

Miley’s unsuccessful time in Newport is another in a plague of failed loans that haven’t benefited the player or Newcastle in recent years.

Alex Murphy and Charlie McArthur were both loaned to struggling Football League sides this month, with the former’s already off to an underwhelming start with manager Ian Evatt sacked just a day after Murphy arrived at Bolton.

Garang Kuol hasn’t seemed to have benefited at all from moves to Hearts and Volendam, with the next decision for the young Aussie pivotal for his career. The youth talent on our ranks continues to expand, but we need to give them every opportunity to succeed – certainly an area to improve going forward.
