Newcastle offered AC Milan winger and Saint-Maximin set for shock move?

Whether Newcastle do anymore business – in or out – between now and Monday’s 11pm deadline remains to be seen, but that won’t stop the rumours from flying around.

Howe hinted this morning that it’s unlikely anyone arrives, also claiming that the likes of Longstaff, Kelly and Targett could also stay put, as things stand.

However, with the market likely to be active in the final few days of the window, opportunities could arise and it sounds like a certain Serie A winger may have been offered our way.

AC Milan offer winger to Newcastle

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Newcastle United have been offered the chance to sign Samuel Chukwueze over the final day of the January transfer window.

They report that Milan have been in contact with Newcastle, Spurs Everton and Crystal Palace, with the Serie A side looking to raise funds via the Nigerian who joined from Villarreal for £23m a year-and-a-half ago.

Chukwueze is no stranger to St James’ Park, scoring in our Champions League defeat to AC Milan back in December 2023.

It may be seen as an intriguing option, especially now Miguel Almiron has been sold, but Howe has hinted that there’ll be no incomings – unless “something huge” happens to shift our January transfer plans.

On Friday, Howe said: “We knew that this window – barring something huge happening that we didn’t expect – would be a window we didn’t recruit in. I’ve said that from the outset and despite being linked with numerous players, that’s still the case. We’re not actively looking to recruit at this stage.”

Saint-Maximin off to Italy?

Staying in Italy, it sounds like Allan Saint-Maximin could be heading for his third move in 18 months.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Napoli have made contact with Saudi club Al-Ahli over a loan move for the French winger.

The 27-year-old is currently midway through a loan spell at Fenerbahce, but that spell in Turkey may be cut short after just one start in the last nine league games under Jose Mourinho.

Should Saint-Maximin leave for Napoli, he’d work under ex-Chelsea and Spurs boss Antonio Conte, who is looking for a short-term replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia following his January move to PSG.

Time will tell if if goes through, but I imagine few saw ASM working under Mourinho and then Conte within two years of him leaving Newcastle for Saudi!

  1. Sam chukwueze is hardly an upgrade on miggy or any other team member .. he played 23 games so far and scored 2 goals and one assist !

  2. The Milan winger we should have had was Pulisic. Could have signed him for about £10m from Chelsea when he was offered last winter. Plays left or right wing and presses/runs all day long. Missed out on that one…
