Paul Mitchell closing in on Spaniard as Newcastle line up summer signing - Report

It doesn't sound like there'll be any new additions on Tyneside this month, but sporting director Paul Mitchell appears to be working on another young talent who could arrive this summer.

Newcastle have already wrapped up the signing of Georgian sensation Vakhtang Salia, who will officialy sign on his 18th birthday in August.

However, another teenager attacker could be joining him at the club in a few months time as the club continue to pursue potential stars of the future.

Spanish winger in talks to sign?

According to The Mail, Newcastle United are in talks to sign Malaga sensation Antonio Cordero.

The 18-year-old winger is out of contract at the end of the season and it looks like Paul Mitchell is pushing Newcastle to capitalise, with Toon chiefs in discussions over a pre-contract agreement that would see him sign this summer.

Cordero has become a regular with the La Liga2 side and has impressed already at senior level, weighing in with 10 goal involvements (four goals and six assists) in 22 appearances in the Spanish second tier.

The right-footed winger tends to operate down the left, but has also played as an attacking midfielder and right-winger for Malaga, showing his ability to play in multiple positions.

He represents Spain at U19 level and has previously had spells within Sevilla and Real Betis' youth systems before breaking through at Malaga.

Mitchell's focus clear

While there will always be place for proven stars ready to take our first-team to the next level, it's clear Paul Mitchell is putting the work in to sign exciting young talent who can hopefully develop into top players.

Whether they are loaned out initially and then sold for a big profit - as Yankuba Minteh was - or integrated gradually into Eddie Howe's plans, it's a move that can help massively with PSR.

Of course, we must also focus on the first team and signings who can help for the here and now, but it makes sense to pursue low cost youngsters while PSR issues restrict our ability to spend big...for now at least.
