Player ratings from Newcastle 1-2 Fulham – Five 4s, several 5s and a few 6/10s

A poor display at St James’ Park both individually and collectively, where Newcastle United fell to a 2-1 defeat to Fulham after a dreadful second half showing.

Here come the ratings and our comments on each player involved:

Dubravka (6) – Could do nothing for the first goal and was left exposed for the second. Could we see Pope return soon?

Livramento (4.5) – Didn’t look right. Stood off defensively, failing to stop crosses, and looked half asleep at times. Made some lung busting runs in the first half but was sacrificed for the calm head of Trippier in the second.

Schar (4.5) – Played one or two lovely diagonals but so many of his balls out from the back were wayward and wasteful. Defensively he was poor again and looked half asleep at times. You feel if Botman was right footed he’d be starting.

Burn (5) – Not his finest performance. Won nearly every aerial battle but was caught out on more than one occasion by the lively Jimenez.

Hall (5) – Turned inside out at the start of the second half by Traore but was otherwise OK. Linked up with Gordon well in the first half especially, but faded in the second.

Joelinton (4) – Did little other than give away the ball and clumsy free kicks. Was lucky not to have been booked even earlier and was way off his game today. Hooked after an hour and can have no complaints.

Tonali (5.5) – Harsh yellow card topped off an unhappy day for the Italian who thumped the bar with a rocket in the first half. Sold Murphy short with a simple pass which directly lead to the equaliser. Rare day when we were outclassed in midfield

Guimaraes (4.5) – Very poor. Sloppy in possession and was pick pocketed on more than one occasion. Let’s hope it’s just a one off!

Murphy (6.5) – Great finish to put us ahead and threatened with some great balls into the box. Conceded the free kick which led to the winner. Ran his socks off all game.

Gordon (6.5) – Probably the best of a bad bunch today. Ran hard all game and showed his quality in the lead up to the opening goal. Can hold his head up

Isak (5.5) – Rattled the bar in the second half but was largely anonymous throughout the game. Rare off day for our talisman

Subs:

Trippier (5) – Brought on to instil come calm to the defence during Fulham’s period of dominance. It didn’t work.

Willock (4) – Air swing from four yards out sums up his performance. Lost possession several times and added nothing off the bench, which is becoming a theme now.

Osula (NR)

Kelly (NR)

Miley (NR)

  1. Luke:-
Not a rare day when we were outclassed in midfield two out of the last three in fact.
Bruno has been off it for a while and Joelinton is rarely on it as a “footballer”
When we reached the Carabo cup final the last time our form also went to bits, only this time we are a long way from being there yet.
