Newcastle’s wait for a new right-winger continues and updates have arrived on two names linked over the past month or so.
The Magpies are very unlikely to sign anyone before Monday’s deadline, even if multiple sales occur, with summer moves far more likely when we’ll have considerably more ‘headroom’ from a PSR perspective.
Mitchell, however, is keen to change our strategy to a more continental approach, taking a close look at many European gems who could develop into star players under Eddie Howe – only cost a fraction of the price.
Ligue 1 star not fancied by Howe?
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is not looking to take advantage of Rayan Cherki’s situation at Lyon despite interest from Paul Mitchell, according to GiveMeSport.
Our sporting director knows the French league well from his time at Monaco and will be well aware of the 21-year-old playmaker, who is rumoured to be available for £18m in light of Lyon’s financial struggles.
Cherki’s talent is not believed to be the issue, but there have been concerns over the Frenchman’s attitude and work rate, which could well explain why Howe is not fond of a move for the France U21 international.
Instead, it looks as though Cherki could be heading to Germany, with Sky revealing that Borussia Dortmund are in talks over a late deal.
Newcastle ‘desperate’ for Dibling to wait
Staying on the subject of talented young attackers, it’s believed Newcastle, and Howe, are far more interested in acquiring long-term target Tyler Dibling, who has seen his stock rise at Southampton after a superb breakthrough season.
In light of growing interest from Spurs – The Telegraph say talks have taken place over a switch to North London – GiveMeSport report that Newcastle are ‘desperate’ for Dibling to delay any decision on his future until the summer, where we would be in a position to act.
However, with us seemingly forced to stand by and hope Dibling does not agree to any move over the final week of the window, Howe and Mitchell may be facing a nervous wait over the next few days, especially after seeing centre-backs targets Khusanov and Reis join Man City.
Sky Sports have reported that the 18-year-old has a £55m asking price on his head this month. This appears to be well beyond our immediate capabilities, but that January premium may come down if and when the Saints suffer relegation back to the Championship.
Oh dear quoting givemesport who once again are trying to make a rift between Howe and Mitchell that just doesn’t exist.
Stop quoting/ making articles based on what these idiots post 🤦

There is one major problem with PSR, other premier teams are receiving inflated amounts for average players yet we are receiving buttons, take ASM for example £20million.
All our deals are unfairly scrutinised because we have “links” to the Saudi’s.
We were ripped also off by being forced to take a goalkeeper costing £20 million in the Anderson and Minteh scenario.
Who is overseeing the other “fair” prices, Aston Villa have just received £64 million for a young centre forward (as much as we bought Isak for…is he as good as Isak?)
We are not able to compete at all as the last three transfer windows have highlighted.

As for Dwayne Dibley no thanks 55m for someone that hasn’t really done a lot but show potential when we’ve been recruiting young talent with potential for a fraction of that.
Epia, Osula, Minteh, Sanusi, Salia, Harrison and Pivas all signed for less than 55m combined yes not all will make it but why waste money on a kid who is a good player in a 💩 team for a whopping 55m which could buy us someone like Mbeumo ….. No thanks
The players I posted are just a small number our academy have recruited since the take over and we are adding more so good to see as it’s never happened at the club in my lifetime of supporting them the academy was always an afterthought.

As much as I like buying British 55 million for an unproven player is way over the top you could get two players abroad with the same ability for that money maybe this is where Mitchell is coming from with the not fit for purpose comment especially with FFP constraints

I think our problem is our manager, time and time again he proves his inability to change things when team dominating us.
Last night you could see it coming just after we scored, let’s be honest this paying huge amount from British players is not a great idea. I’m sorry but some of the British players are in it just for the money not for the love of the game.
They get in to football for cash.
I personally don’t think Lewis is that great for £28m or Tino £30+m or even Barnes £38m.
None of these players would walk in a top six team in a good league,
But yet we are getting them.
People say Eddie what a great manager tranformed players.
Then look at Nino he must be a genius, this the same team almost Cooper had, they were fighting relegation, so maybe it is time to rey our luck with manager that won something.

Personally I think Hall & Tino are worth every penny
