Eddie Howe has revealed the plan for Newcastle United summer signing Will Osula after a quiet start to life on Tyneside.
The Dane, who arrived from Sheffield United for £10m, has been limited to just 44 Premier League minutes since his arrival to the north east.
The 21-year-old forward showed his potential in the 3-1 win over Bromley where he scored an impressive goal after cutting in superbly from the right.
Osula’s minutes have remained limited since then, but it wouldn’t be the first time we have seen Howe ease a player into the first team – and the gaffer hinted he may look to switch things up in his latest update on plans for the forward.
Howe reveals Osula plan
The sale of Miguel Almiron to Atlanta United may open up the opportunity for Osula to receive minutes down the right side of our attack, with Eddie Howe also explaining why the forward will not be loaned out on deadline day.
Asked about the loan rumours, Howe said: “I see that balance very firmly at the moment that he needs to be with us, he needs the training, he needs the understanding that we need to give him.
The boss also hinted that he could be used down the right, where he appeared in the closing stages of Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Fulham: “He is a multi-talented player, he has played wide before and that’s an option we could look at.
“Looking at him as a striker, he’s competing with Alex (Isak), which you wouldn’t necessarily want, but he is also working with two of the best strikers you could want. (He’s) very much here at the moment.”
Almiron’s departure means that Jacob Murphy is the only right winger currently on our books, with a move this late in the window very unlikely.
Harvey Barnes and Callum Wilson remain out, leaving us particularly thin up top currently, meaning Joe Willock and Osula are the only two available to mix up our current attacking options from the bench.
Hoping for the Hall-effect?
Lewis Hall has blossomed into one of the standout left-backs in the league this season after questions around the former-Chelsea man were asked last season.
The 20-year-old has silenced any doubters this campaign after a season of learning that only benefited him in the long-term. Hopefully the same comes of Osula, who continues to come across well in behind the scenes while also receiving praise from Howe despite his lack of minutes so far.
It’s easy to see the raw potential of Osula in the glimpses we have got into the attacker who profiles while for our set-up, and Howe’s reputation for developing talent continues to grow. There was obviously a plan that was made when we signed him, and that is what we’re sticking to.
