It looks like North East rivals Sunderland are still looking to bolster their attack before tonight’s 11pm deadline in a bid to seal promotion back to the Premier League.
This has led to the Black Cats turning their interest to current Southampton striker and former Mag Adam Armstrong, with a loan move reportedly on the table.
However, it doesn’t sound like they’ll have much joy in an amusing deadline day update.
Sunderland snubbed by former Toon striker
According to reports on Monday night, boyhood Toon fan Aam Armstrong will turn down an offer from Sunderland, as he does not want to join Newcastle’s bitter rivals.
Rumours first started to circulate about Armstrong’s future when TBR’s Graeme Bailey listed Sunderland and Middlesbrough as being interested in the 27-year-old, who is struggling for game time under new Saints boss Ivan Juric.
Then, in news later reported by both The Sun’s Jack Rosser and TalkSport’s Alex Crook, it was Sunderland who tabled a loan move for Armstrong, one of the most prolific Championship strikers in recent memory.
Armstrong sticks to boyhood roots
However, talkSPORT’s Crook has this evening revealed that Armstrong will not accept a late loan offer from Sunderland.
Armstrong, who joined Newcastle’s academy at just nine-years-old and spent over a decade at the club, is hinted at keeping loyal to his boyhood side and rebuking the approach.
With Middlesbrough interested alongside Leeds United, Armstrong looks to be making his move away from the South Coast back to the North: but wherever it ends up being, it seems fairly certain to not be at the Stadium of Light.
