Newcastle United have announced an out-of-window loan move, seeing another Under-21 talent depart for game time at senior level.
We’ve already seen Jamie Miley leave for Hartlepool on a permanent deal, while Alex Murphy (Bolton) and Charlie McArthur (Carlisle) and Travis Hernes (Aalborg BK) have all left on six-month loans.
Another young talent has been handed the opportunity to prove his worth in the men’s game, with confirmation of a move coming after last night’s 11pm deadline.
Midfield talent leaves on loan
Newcastle Under-21 midfielder James Huntley has been sent on a six-month loan to Spennymoor Town of the National League North.
Moors have been competitive in step two for a number of years after a sharp rise up the divisions and have helped to develop other former academy products, such as 6’7” goalkeeper Dan Langley, in recent seasons.
A club statement reads: ‘Newcastle United Under-21s midfielder James Huntley has joined Spennymoor Town on loan for the rest of the season.
‘The 20-year-old has been with the academy since he was eight and this loan spell marks his first time away from the club. Huntley trained with the first team ahead of the Magpies’ UEFA Champions League match away to Paris Saint-Germain in November 2023 and was named on the substitutes bench.
‘Huntley joins a Spennymoor team that currently sit 12th in the National League North and everyone at the club would like to wish James well for his loan spell.’
A trip to Wembley may be on the cards for Huntley as the County Durham side progressed to the last eight of the FA Trophy over the weekend, but at 20-years-old you would hope a Football League loan could have been on the cards if he was to have a future with NUFC.
Kuol one to watch?
The English transfer window is now closed meaning we can no further bolster our squad, however a range of clubs across the globe are still active in the transfer market – including Garang Kuol’s home country.
The Australian was yesterday linked with a return to A-League side Macarthur FC on loan after finding form with two goals and an assist in his last three matches for our Under-21s. Kuol has already been loaned out twice since arriving from Central Coast Mariners, firstly to Hearts then to FC Volendam of the Netherlands, and the next move is crucial for his development.
The Dutch window comes to a close today with Austria (February 6), Turkey (February 11), Australia (February 12), Poland (February 22), Brazil (February 28) and the MLS (April 23) still able to add to their teams before their respective deadlines.
