Newcastle’s opponents for the 2025 Carabao Cup final have been confirmed, with defending champions Liverpool standing between them and the trophy.

Eddie Howe’s quest to become the first Newcastle manager to win major silverware in nearly 70 years will have to go through Arne Slot’s side, having outclassed Mikel Arteta and Arsenal in the semi-final.

The Reds overcame Tottenham in Thursday night’s second leg, progressing 4-1 on aggregate after a resounding win at Anfield, setting up a tie with Newcastle on Sunday 16th March.

When the two sides met earlier this season, we were treat to a six goal thriller under the lights at St James’ Park, with Newcastle showing they can more than go toe-to-toe with the much-fancied Liverpool.

Wembley details emerge

The first details were also revealed today regarding seating allocation for the final: Newcastle have been granted 33,000 seats of Wembley’s 90k+ capacity, and will occupy the ground’s East End once again, as we did two years ago.

Liverpool stand as the most successful team in the tournament’s history, having won their 10th title in the 2024 final against Chelsea.

The last time the two teams met in the competition came in 1998, when Liverpool ran out 0-2 winners.
