Newcastle loan star scores first senior goal in bonkers game on Saturday – Watch here

It’s been a chaotic start to life at Bolton for Newcastle United talent Alex Murphy.

The Irish defender joined the League One side on loan last month, initially under Ian Evatt, only for the 43-year-old to be sacked just days after his arrival.

Since then, Steve Schumacher has arrived as Bolton’s new manager and it hasn’t taken long for Murphy to impress (and score!) after back-to-back starts.

Murphy’s first senior goal

Alex Murphy was involved in one of the games of the weekend on Saturday afternoon, and it was a match to remember for the Newcastle United talent.

Starting for the second consecutive time under Schumacher, Murphy helped spark Bolton’s stunning second half comeback from 3-1 down with his first senior goal.

Operating at left-back, his 68th minute strike (watch it below at 1:20) made it 3-2 in a game Bolton went on to win 4-3 thanks to a 99th minute goal.

A bonkers game of football and one of the most entertaining second halves we’ll see all season, featuring SEVEN goals, a red card and a late winner deep in stoppage time to send Bolton level with the play-off spots.

Ironically, Murphy was an unused substitute in his first game under Evatt, yet he’s not started back-to-back games under Schumacher.

The former Plymouth and Stoke boss has been full of praise for the versatile defender. Speaking last week after his first league start against Reading.

He said: “I thought he was outstanding for his first start. So, loads and loads of positives to take.” Positive signs and a brilliant moment for Murphy, who will hopefully enjoy a run in the side from this point onwards.
