Newcastle reignite interest in winger set to return from ACL injury – Report

Paul Mitchell’s push for some of Europe’s top young talent looks set to continue, with another name linked with Newcastle United this week.

18-year-old Malaga star Antonio Cordero looks set to arrive as the club close in on a pre-contract agreement, seeing him join Baran Yildiz and Vakhtang Salia in our growing pool of ‘project players’.

However, the latest link features a talented winger who was tipped for the top prior to a devastating knee ligament injury that has kept him sidelined over the past year.

Swedish sensation linked again

Newcastle are said to be one of a number of clubs eyeing up a move for FC Copenhagen’s Roony Bardghji, who could become a free agent by the end of 2025.

Bardghji, who has previously shone in the Champions League and been dubbed the ‘Swedish Messi’ by pundits, is on the verge of returning from an ACL injury that has kept him out since last May.

After previous interest from Tyneside, TBR report that the 19-year-old is back on our radar. However, it seems Newcastle face competition from Manchester City, Manchester United, Aston Villa and Brighton, with Chelsea thought to be leading the race at present.

Bardghji’s contract at Copenhagen is set to expire at the end of the domestic season, which comes in December in Denmark, rather than May like most of Europe.

So, for Copenhagen to try and recoup some money before he departs on a free, a summer sale is likely, with a number of Premier League clubs in the mix 12 months on from Tottenham’s £21m bid last January.

Bardghji ticks boxes for Toon

Although his recent injury could be a slight cause for concern, Bardghji immediately ticks a number of boxes when it comes to the club’s transfer targets.

A young attacker, who specialises in playing off the right, boasting Champions League experience and without Premier League tax. With immense potential, he could be a dream signing for Paul Mitchell and the Newcastle hierarchy.

Watch him in action below, with the Swede one of the most sought after young talents in Europe prior to last year’s knee injury:
