Player ‘keen’ on Newcastle move with Bayer Leverkusen exit on the cards

Newcastle United are set to be offered a Bundesliga star this summer, according to reports.

The closing of the winter window hasn’t seen the rumours come to a halt with SC Braga Roger Fernandes linked once again and a few Champions League wingers watched, one being Celtic’s Nicolas Kuhn.

Some of our attacking options could be refreshed this summer, while, while more youngsters look set to arrive with Malaga talent Antonio Cordero expected to sign on a pre-contract agreement.

Victor Osimhen is another who has been linked with a move to Newcastle, though his €60m release clause would make the finances of a deal tough when we still have Alexander Isak, and the latest name touted with a move to Tyneside surely won’t come cheap either.

Newcastle set to be offered Bundesliga striker

Newcastle are set to be offered the chance to sign Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface, according to Lee Ryder’s report in the Chronicle.

The Nigerian is apparently ‘keen’ on a move to the Magpies but it remains to be seen if the feeling is reciprocated on our behalf – or even if we have the financial capability to sign the 24-year-old this summer.

Boniface was on the verge of an exit to Al Nassr in January before the deal fell through, with the star forward currently considering his options after accepting the club were willing to allow him to depart last month.

West Ham United are also reportedly interested in signing Boniface, who we have held long term interest in the forward.

Boniface unlikely to replace Wilson?

Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr were close to completing the signing of Boniface in January for £49m; a fee that might prove too steep for a back-up striker – unless a drastic system change saw us change to a front two.

In an ideal world, having a second high profile signing to compete with Alexander Isak would be an attractive prospect, but the high fee (and undoubtedly big wages) and poor fit for our current 4-3-3 system makes this feel an unlikely prospect.

The club are yet to make a decision on the one-year extension clause in Callum Wilson’s contract, which is due to expire this summer, adding a further variable to the striker saga that will unfold over the next few months.

  1. If we are getting back up for Isak it won’t be the likes of this guy or Davids there’s no way they are coming to be bench warmers.
It’ll be a young up and coming striker (We already have one) or someone like DCL (bit like a Wood signing) someone happy to play a bit part.

  2. Can we afford it with psr .. can we without selling issak to Arsenal, guimares to everyone and Gordon to Liverpool .. what will happen should I stop reading this nonsense endlessly repeated day after day .. all of the above players are on lengthy contracts . All have said they are happy the club and agents say the same .. Newcastle will be able to spend a considerable amount in summer with turnover of £370 million .., give it a rest and write about other issues k
