Newcastle are said to be ‘calling constantly’ in regards to one of the Premier League’s most in-demand defenders ahead of a potential summer transfer move.
Dean Huijsen has been one of the standout players in Bournemouth’s amazing season so far, and has attracted interest from top clubs everywhere.
With a £50m release clause activating in the summer, Eddie Howe may be hoping to convince Huijsen to become the latest Cherry to join the Magpies in the near future.
£50m a potential bargain?
Since moving from Juventus to Bournemouth, Huijsen is proving to be one of the best bargain buys in recent years in the Premier League at £12m.
And according to Fabrizio Romano, the Spaniard has a £50m release clause in his contract with Andoni Iraola’s side.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano stated that Newcastle are showing serious interest alongside Premier League rivals and Bayern:
“The release clause is £50m. Valid from summer 2025. Clubs can make it happen without negotiating with Bournemouth. Newcastle are informed and calling Bournemouth constantly about the situation of Dean Huijsen.”
Cross continental competition
Luring the highly-sought after Huijsen will be a monumental task for Paul Mitchell and the Newcastle hierarchy.
Several clubs are said to be interested in Huijsen’s signature, with Romano highlighting Chelsea and Bayern Munich as potential suitors: two clubs where Huijsen would likely start for next season if he continues his fine form.
The i’s Mark Douglas elaborates further, stating that Liverpool, PSG and Real Madrid are another trio of clubs chasing the 19-year-old.
Champions League imperative
As we rapidly approach the business end of the season, Newcastle’s hopes for Champions League football change every single week.
Still fancied to finish above the likes of Bournemouth and Chelsea in the race for the top 5 places in the Premier League, securing Champions League football would go an immeasurably long way to bringing in a number of top targets, Huijsen included.
Newcastle’s current PSR position however could still put them in the running even if they secure Europa or Conference League football rather than Champions League: believed to be a lot more positive than it was over a year ago, Huijsen could be a statement signing in the summer that still allows Newcastle to keep stars like Alexander Isak, Sven Botman and Anthony Gordon.

This was always the risk leaving Ashworth on gardening leave & not having a DoF in place for months leading up to a summer transfer window & into the beginning of it.
All that messing around we did with Guehi when this lad was there for a fraction of the price.

If the rumour is true, wonder if this was one of the reasons Mitchell was saying not fit for purpose chasing Guehi when we could have had this lad especially from an FFP view and as much as I like signing British hope this wasn’t Howe digging his heels in instead of accepting the need to be more flexible

Chelsea will sign Guehi so this guy won’t be of interest and at Bayern he will face stiff competition for a regular start .. Howe was to blame for the Guehi chase not Mitchell .. who has done a great job bringing in top class under 21 players .. I expect the same with the first team now there is money to spend .. if we don’t make Europe or win a cup then a change of manager maybe needed
