Earlier this week, it was revealed that Premier League clubs would debate a potential change to the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Telegraph reported that a proposal aimed to push forward the end of the summer transfer window to the 14th of August: two days before the opening weekend of the 2025/26 Premier League season.
A discussion and potential vote around this was due to take place during a meeting between Premier League chiefs and all 20 member clubs today; and it seems a final decision has been reachd.
Premier League statement on summer transfer window
The Premier League have confirmed that the 2025 summer transfer window will open between 1st and 10th June and then reopen on 16th June before closing on Monday 1st September.
This is due to an exceptional registration period relating to the FIFA Club World Cup, due to take place in June. FIFA windows can only be 89-days, which explains the decision to close and reopen on this occasion.
However, with trading drawing to a close on September 1st – two weeks into the new season – it ensures the Premier League remains in line with all other European Leagues.
A statement from the Premier League states: “Premier League clubs have today agreed the dates for the Summer 2025 Transfer Window.
“The window will open early, between Sunday 1 June and Tuesday 10 June, due to an exceptional registration period relating to the FIFA Club World Cup.
“It will then reopen on Monday 16 June and close on Monday 1 September.”
A huge summer ahead?
Last summer felt like a mess from start to finish.
Amanda Staveley departed, our PSR issues saw us scrambling for sales at the end of June and Paul Mitchell’s late arrival saw him struggle to get deals done over July and August, with our financial position clearly holding us back.
This summer, not only do we have time on our side, Europe (to some capacity) confirmed and money to spend after keeping our powder dry in January, we can expect to see a number of first-team signings finally arrive.
A right-sided centre-back, right winger and striker are likely to arrive, with a young goalkeeper also wanted as the club hope to land Burnley stopper James Trafford.
I was expecting the changes to be that Newcastle can’t buy players on any day ending in Y.
