Eddie Howe releases statement – Newcastle boss speaks out after pneumonia diagnosis

He missed our 4-1 win over Man Utd on Sunday and an official statement and words from the man himself have now been released on Monday tea time.

Newcastle statement and Eddie Howe speaks out

The club have confirmed that Eddie Howe has been diagnosed with pneumonia and is currently recovering in hospital.

Further updates will be shared in due course, with Jason Tindall and Graeme Jones preparing the team for games against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa this week. Howe is expected to sit out both games.

Howe has issued a “huge thank you” to those who’ve wished him a swift recovery, paid tribute to NHS staff and is hoping to be back “as soon as possible” following a “period of recovery.

In a message via the club’s official site, the boss said:

“A huge thank you to everyone connected with Newcastle United and the wider football community for your messages and warm wishes. They have meant a lot to me and my family.

“I also want to pay tribute to our incredible NHS and the hospital staff who have treated me. I’m immensely grateful for the specialist care I’m receiving and, after a period of recovery, I look forward to being back as soon as possible.”
