Newcastle United will be left short in attack next season with the future of Callum Wilson still very much in doubt.
The 32-year-old’s contract is set to expire in the summer, leaving the inexperienced William Osula as the only backup to Alexander Isak in what will be a packed schedule.
Eddie Howe is very keen to add to his already thin front line and looks to be making a strong case to bring in some fresh attackers in the summer.
Newcastle sets sights on Genk forward?
According to media outlet Africa Foot, Newcastle United are leading the charge for Genk striker Toluwalasé Arokodaré who is enjoying a very productive season in the Belgian top division.
The 24-year-old has so far racked up 17 goals and six assists in his 30 league appearances this season, his best output since joining from Latvian side Valmeira in 2023.
Arokodaré also spent a few years out on loan to both FC Koln back in 2021 and then Amiens in Ligue 2 between 2021 and 2023 before eventually settling at the Belgian Pro League side.
At almost 6ft 5, the 24-year-old is a powerful forward who could learn under the guise of Isak and provide suitable support for the team who are guaranteed to be playing in some form of European competition next year.
Genk place £15m price tag on Arokodaré
Newcastle are set to have a decent amount to spend on incomings this summer having failed to bring in an major first-team players in the last three windows, so the money is certainly there.
Howe is also believed to be a fan of the Nigerian international who made his debut for the Super Eagles earlier this year.
£15m would not be an unreasonable fee to pay, but for someone who is still a relatively unproven talent in the top European leagues it’s always going to be a risk no matter what.
It remains to be seen whether Howe will continue to push for the signing or if other targets on his list will take his priority in the coming months,
How can they be short in attack with Wilson leaving? The guy has been injured and hardly played! A new attacking option is a needed that’s for sure.
