Newcastle set to beat Real Madrid to signing top Spanish youngster

According to Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle are set to beat none other than Real Madrid and Barcelona to the signing of one of Spain’s top attacking talents.

Having been linked with the player earlier in the season, it looks like we’ve done enough to convince the youngster to pick the North East over the Spanish capital.

It’s a massive statement from the Mags, not only by securing yet another promising player’s signature, but beating a Real Madrid side focused on their own plans of locking down youthful domestic talent to him.

Cordero chooses Newcastle

Posting on X, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that we’ve reportedly beaten Real Madrid to the signing of Spanish winger Antonio Cordero from Malaga.

In his post, Romano reveals that choosing to join Newcastle was Cordero’s choice, and he becomes the latest youngster to believe in the project.

“Announcement set to take place for Cordero to join Newcastle United project.”

“Barça and Real Madrid were both keen on signing Cordero; he picked Newcastle.”

Who is Antonio Cordero?

At just 18-years-old, Magala’s Antonio Cordero is part of a new golden generation of youth talent coming through Spain.

So far this season, Cordero has recorded an impressive five goals and six assists for Malaga in the Spanish second division.

On top of this, the teenager made his debut for the Spanish U-19s back in October 2024, where he has so far made eight appearances for his country.

Spain of course are the defending U-19 European Champions, much like the Senior Team, and Cordero can be expected to star for La Roja in June when the tournament starts.

The signing of such a player is just the latest achievement of Paul Mitchell’s tenure as Sporting Director, who looks to have gone to extra special measures to secure his man.

With Cordero and his family having met club officials in Newcastle back in January, and coming to the end of his contract with Malaga at the end of the season, this is truly a massive coup for Mitchell and his vision of bringing young talent to Tyneside.
