Newcastle United will face stiff competition from some massive names domestically and on the continent in the pursuit of a key summer signing.
We have made contact with the agent of a talent with a £50m release clause who seems likely to be on the move this summer as our transfer plans begin to become more and more evident with significant first team investment expected.
Three windows without a major incoming have been and gone but the club finds themselves in a strong PSR position and will use the pull of European football to improve the squad this summer.
Dean Huijsen in high demand
Dean Huijsen is likely to move within the Premier League this summer with Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham joining Newcastle in contacting the young defenders camp, according to GiveMeSport’s Ben Jacobs.
The 6’5” centre-back, who turned 20 on Monday, is a two-footed Spain international who arrived at Bournemouth from Juventus for £12m last summer. Real Madrid and Bayern join the five Prem clubs in pursuing Huijsen.
Andoni Iraola’s Cherries will not stand in the way of allowing Huijsen to depart, with suitors seeing good value in the £50m release clause inserted into his contract.
At this stage, Jacobs reports that a deal could be concluded before the transfer window opens on January 1 with Premier League sides at a more advanced stage in talks than the interest from the continent.
Prem talents perfect for Newcastle
The Huijsen deal is definitely one to watch this summer. Newcastle need to start getting ahead of a centre-back problem that could develop very soon if it isn’t addressed in advance.
Dan Burn and Fabian Schar have both been excellent in central defence this season but are pushing on into their 30s and aren’t a long-term option at the back, Sven Botman’s injury struggles are ongoing and extra cover at the back has become vital.
Huijsen’s attributes make him the perfect fit for the Mags defence, it’s like having a build your own centre-back with his height, two-footedness and ability at just 20.
Bryan Mbeumo of Brentford is also linked with a switch to Newcastle, and is another Premier League talent that would be a fantastic addition to the Toon squad.
Jacob Murphy has enjoyed the season of his life but he can’t go it alone next season when Newcastle add European football to their calendar. Miguel Almiron’s departure in January has left no reinforcements on the right-wing.
Mbeumo is perfect for a team quick on the counter-attack like ourselves and would solve two transfer headaches in one, also being able to provide cover for Alexander Isak up top with Callum Wilson likely to depart this summer.
