Tindall issues update on Howe, Botman, Willock and Gordon ahead of Palace clash

Jason Tindall gave an update on the status of Eddie Howe and the playing squad when he spoke to the media ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Crystal Palace.

Newcastle’s assistant manager will once again lead from the dugout against Palace, while Howe continues to recover from pneumonia after being hospitalised on Friday night.

Tindall will look to continue his 100% winning record after guiding the Mags to a 4-1 battering of Manchester United on Sunday, and has been handed an injury boost to his available selection ahead of the Palace game.

Tindall on Eddie Howe

Eddie Howe will continue to rest and recover from his bout of pneumonia and has had little contact with the squad or Tindall ahead of tomorrow’s game against Palace.

Football isn’t the most important thing in life and we can only hope that Howe makes a swift and speedy recovery. Tindall, a long-term close friend of Howe, has shared just a few text messages with the gaffer over the last few days.

“[Howe’s pneumonia diagnosis] is the only update really. We’ve had minimal dialogue together since that announcement, but as we know he’s in the best possible hands and he’ll be back as soon as he feels he’s ready to come back and 100% to lead the team.

“Your health is the most important thing and that’s why it’s so important that when Eddie does come back he’s able to lead as we know he does, which I’m sure he will do.

“The most important thing for him now is to rest and to recover and probably best not to worry about anything other than making sure he’s recovered and gets himself better as quickly as possible.

“I’d imagine in the next couple of days, if he’s feeling better, maybe we’ll have a little bit more dialogue but as it stands there’s been minimal contact.”

Newcastle given triple injury boost

Jason Tindall gave an update on the status of Joe Willock, Sven Botman and Anthony Gordon ahead of the Crystal Palace game.

The 47-year-old confirmed that Willock is exiting the concussion protocol and will be involved in tomorrow’s matchday squad after being absent in the wins over Leicester and Manchester United.

No further injuries were reported in Sunday’s comfortable victory over Ruben Amorim’s side. Anthony Gordon made his return from a groin injury off the bench that day and will be pushing for a return to start despite the form of Harvey Barnes.

Sven Botman may be back in action soon with Tindall confirming the Dutchman is “back on the grass and ahead of schedule,” following surgery on his knee.
