Newcastle United is hoping to sign a striker in the upcoming summer transfer window and have learned the fee for a player of interest.
Callum Wilson is likely to depart this summer with the club giving no indication that they are willing to extend his contract for another year. Wilson’s performances off the bench have been disappointing this season, with the 33-year-old a distance from his previous best
Will Osula is still a raw talent, but at only 21 can be considered one that will grow into the side as Eddie Howe and the coaching staff continue to hone his ability. As it stands though, with Newcastle participating in Europe next season we urgently need more quality up top to support Alexander Isak.
Frankfurt whack hefty fee on Hugo Ekitike
Newcastle have been interested in Hugo Ekitike for over three years, but they were unsuccessful in 2022 when he rejected a move to join PSG. Now at Frankfurt, it seems unlikely a move will be completed this summer either.
We have regained our interest in Ekitike, but a hefty transfer fee may put an end to this saga for another window. Newcastle would need to pay a club record £77m for Ekitike this summer, according to Bild.
Ekitike admitted that he couldn’t refuse PSG’s offer in 2022 and expressed no ill will towards Newcastle when he signed there. In 2025, he has become a star player for his current side in Germany, scoring 14 goals in 28 league games.
Better options out there?
Isak’s exceptional performance makes it difficult to drop him and Eddie Howe does not play with two up top. Considering Ekitike’s current form he is likely to want to start every week, and he may once again have no interest in a move to Newcastle.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin is set to leave Everton on a free transfer this summer and is another potential target. Our focus should be on finding a striker who is willing to play as a backup, and ‘DCL’ would offer a more cost-effective option compared to Ekitike.
Calvert-Lewin reportedly demands £100,000 per week, which Newcastle should be able to accommodate. There is a belief that the 27-year-old would be content to play second fiddle to Isak if a move materialises.
Calvert is not a target ., give it a rest from repeating the same old stories for two years ., he has scored 17 goals in 5 seasons and has been injured every season .. he currently has another hamstring injury ..
