Howe’s message to Will Osula as Bruno dedicates classy post to 6ft 3’ Dane
Will Osula has secured high praise from manager Eddie Howe and captain Bruno Guimaraes after scoring his first Premier League goal.
Just three minutes after coming off the bench to play on the right-wing, the Dane was strong to hold off his marker before leaping to power a well-placed header past Alex Palmer.
Evidently a popular figure in the dressing room the squad was clearly buzzing for Osula as they ran over to the corner flag to celebrate his maiden goal in the league.
Still considered a raw talent, it was an excellent cameo from Osula at St. James’ Park playing in an unnatural position on the right of the front three - and Howe has told the forward how he can progress within the first team set-up.
Howe’s message to Osula
Eddie Howe was full of praise for the “excellent” Will Osula after the 21-year-old broke his duck and scored his first Prem goal with a powerful header.
The Telegraph reported this week that we are ‘likely’ to loan out Osula to provide him with more first-team experience, and Howe’s comments don’t suggest he has yet done enough to solidify a run of minutes.
However, he listed many of the Dane’s positive attributes as he told Osula what the next step must be if he is to push on and find more time on the pitch.
“Great to see Will come on the pitch and score with a header of the highest level,” said Howe of Osula. “Hopefully that’s a turning point for him.
“We think he's improved, but obviously the acid test will be when he performs on the pitch and in the team. And today I thought he was excellent.
“He came on at right wing, which is a totally different position. I know it's obvious, but it's a totally different position and different skill set to playing as a nine.
“But I thought he looked a real threat. He looked quick and athletic. And the goal I thought was an outstanding finish.
”He's 6'3", verging on 6'4". So he needs to be a physical presence. He needs to use his aerial skills. Delighted that he got his first Premier League goal.”
Bruno’s Instagram post for Osula
Nobody celebrated Osula’s goal as hard as captain Bruno Guimaraes as the Brazilian ran across to the dancing Dane in the corner flag to join in on what is becoming his trademark dance.
Osula was seen doing the same dance into the dressing room at Wembley with a scarf wrapped around his head, flag draped around his shoulders and a Carabao Cup winners medal around his neck.
On Saturday, Bruno joined in with the jig to share the moment with the 21-year-old - and then later shared with his Instagram his joy for his teammate:
“Delighted for you, my bro! You are proof that hard work always pays off. Keep it going - the first of many in the Premier League for you!”
