Bryan Mbeumo makes Newcastle admission as links with potential £60m move continue

Bryan Mbeumo has complimented Newcastle United as rumours linking the Brentford winger with a switch to Tyneside continue.

Eddie Howe is thought to be a long-term fan of the Cameroonian, but a £60m-plus price tag set by the Bees may prove difficult for the Toon to meet as they aim to add three or four quality first-team players this summer.

Jacob Murphy is currently the only out-and-out right winger within the Newcastle squad after the departures of Yankuba Minteh and Miguel Almiron this season, and Mbeumo has got fans talking following a recent interview.

Mbeumo makes St. James’ Park admission

Bryan Mbeumo revealed his fondness for St. James’ Park and admitted it is one of his favourite places to play in a recent Q&A with Pro Direct Soccer.

The 25-year-old scored from the penalty spot when Brentford came to the North East in April and lost 2-1, in a game mainly remembered for Sandro Tonali scoring from what he admitted was a cross.

Mbeumo admitted he finds it tough to play at SJP in the away side. Well - if you can’t beat them, join them Bryan!

“What’s your favourite stadium to play at?” Mbeumo was asked.

“Oh, I really like Everton and Newcastle as well,” Mbeumo said.

“The toughest away stadium to play at?” The winger was asked.

“Probably one of those,” Mbeumo said.

Mbeumo the perfect signing for Newcastle?

Bryan Mbeumo ticks every box Newcastle should be looking to tick with Eddie Howe expected to be backed this summer.

Newcastle find themselves in a stronger position with PSR after the sales of Elliot Anderson, Yankuba Minteh, Miguel Almiron and Lloyd Kelly and are looking to sign a goalkeeper, right-sided defender, right-winger and back-up striker this summer.

An expensive yet reasonable fee of £60m may limit spending elsewhere - as pointed out by the Telegraph’s Luke Edwards we can’t sign four players at that price tag - but he would cover the latter two required positions.

Mbeumo can be our starting right-winger, but also offer rotation for Alexander Isak up top if the Swede was to need a rest with European football guaranteed after our Carabao Cup victory.
