Newcastle facing fight over two £60m+ targets as Man Utd eye double deal - Report
Should we qualify for next season’s Champions League, we could and should be pushing for top quality additions to help us kick on heading into a busy 2025/26 campaign.
Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo has been tipped by many fans to be that player, with Wolves' Matheus Cunha another attacking target enjoying a superb season in the Premier League.
They could be two of the most in-demand players in the division this summer, but a Premier League rival appears to have joined us in the race to land both..
Rivals join Mbeumo race
According to The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath, Manchester United look set to battle Newcastle United for the signature of Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo this summer.
Rated north of £60m, it’s looking increasingly likely that the Cameroonian is nearing the end of his time in West London after another superb season.
And this has attracted the interest of the Premier League’s biggest clubs, with Man Utd now linked just days after The Telegraph's Luke Edwards revealed that Eddie Howe would 'love' to land the 25-year-old.
The same report highlights Man Utd's interest in signing both Mbeumo and Cunha, with the latter seeming increasingly likely to sign at Old Trafford via a £62.5m release clause.
While the Red Devils may be willing to offer more lucrative wages, we can only hope end-of-season results go in our favour, with a top-five finish for us and Europa League final defeat for Man Utd having the potential to play a big role in the appeal attached to both clubs.
Striker and centre-back targets also wanted men
These aren't the only transfer targets both ourselves and Man Utd are eyeing up this summer.
Liam Delap’s £30m release clause at Ipswich has teams up and down the league on alert over a potential bargain, and Dean Huijsen of Bournemouth has also been linked to both clubs in the past few weeks.
Our growing stance on Huijsen looks to be that we’re not keen on signing a player with who we’re either going to compete with other big clubs for, or one who doesn’t see Newcastle as their real first choice.
A deal for the Cherries centre-back looks difficult, however, with the i reporting last week that the Spanish international looks more likely to join Chelsea, Arsenal or Liverpool.
But Mbeumo should be a different story: at 25-years-old with 18 goals and six assists in the league this season, he ticks so many boxes in our ongoing pursuit of a quality right winger.
