Newcastle United statement: Second pre-season trip confirmed - Two more to follow?

We still have three massive games to go in the race for Champions League football in the Premier League, but Newcastle United have this morning confirmed a second pre-season friendly set to take place this summer.

We've already had confirmation of a clash with Arsenal in Singapore on Sunday 27th July, with the club heading to Asia in the build up to the 2025/26 season.

Two more friendlies are due to be announced - a meeting with Spurs in South Korea is expected alongside a game against a representative side in Seoul - but we'll head north of the border before jetting out to Asia.

Newcastle confirm Celtic clash

Newcastle United will take on Scottish giants Celtic in a pre-season friendly in just over two months time.

Eddie Howe's Mags are set to meet the SPL champions on Saturday 19th July (3pm kick-off) and will take over 7,000 away fans with them as we compete for the first ever Adidas Trophy.

A club statement on Tuesday morning confirmed the news, revealing full details including away allocation and how to get tickets:

'We'll travel to Glasgow to face Scottish Premiership champions Celtic FC as part of pre-season this summer.

'Our match at Celtic Park will see the current English and Scottish League Cup holders competing for the first ever adidas Trophy, with both clubs proudly partnering the global sportswear brand.

'Kicking off at 3.00pm on Saturday 19 July, we'll be backed by 7,200 away fans. Tickets will initially be available to season ticket holders with 35+ away points from 2.00pm today via book.newcastleunited.com.

'Our last pre-season match at Celtic Park was under Sir Bobby Robson in 2004. Back on Tyneside, Celtic were our guests for Alan Shearer's testimonial match on Tyneside in 2006, and we met for a pre-season fixture the following summer at St. James' Park.

'We last visited Glasgow in summer 2023, beating Rangers 2-1 in front of a capacity crowd at Ibrox before travelling to the United States for the Premier League Summer Series.

'This time around, the Magpies will return home from Glasgow to prepare for the Singapore Festival of Football in Southeast Asia, where we will face Arsenal on Sunday 27 July. More pre-season fixture news will be announced soon.'

Howe: "A great opportunity"

Reacting to the news, Eddie Howe described this as a great opportunity to face a 'top team' and a 'historic ground', feeling it's ideal preparation for a big season both domestically and in Europe.

"Travelling to Glasgow, to face Celtic, is a great opportunity to test ourselves as we gear up for Premier League and European football next season," said Howe.

"We'll face a top team at an historic ground, with a big away crowd there to support us."
