New James Trafford price tag revealed plus TWO demands if he's to join Newcastle

One of the worst-kept secrets heading into the summer transfer window is Newcastle United's ongoing interest in James Trafford.

Eddie Howe is thought to be a big fan of the former Man City talent and appears intent on bringing a young, ball-playing goalkeeper to the club.

The Mail's Craig Hope has been bullish on Newcastle's pursuit of Trafford since the turn of the year, previously insisting he is highly likely to become our first summer signing.

However, with Burnley now promoted and Trafford breaking clean sheet records following a superb season between the sticks, where does the potential deal stand now and how much would he cost?

Trafford demands emerge

According to The Chronicle, James Trafford's asking price has now doubled following a superb season at Burnley that's helped the Clarets seal an immediate return to the Premier League.

Lee Ryder reports that Newcastle failed with a £16m bid for the goalkeeper last summer, meaning we must now pay in excessive of £30m to land the England Under-21 star.

The same piece goes on to reveal two of Trafford's demands as he ponders his next move, as The Chronicle reveal that sources close to the 22-year-old have communicated to Paul Mitchell.

It's believed Trafford would only leave Burnley following promotion if he is assured of the No 1 position at his next club, while he's also demanding a hefty pay rise.

On current wages of £25,000-per-week, Ryder reports that Trafford would be looking to quadruple this package up to pay in the region of £100,000-per-week.

What now for Newcastle?

Those demands - both the transfer fee and wages - are probably what you'd come to expect from an aspiring England talent tipped for the top.

However, it remains to be seen if Newcastle can afford that package when significant funds must also be put towards moves for a quality centre-back, right winger and striker.

Trafford does tick so many boxes as a young, English goalkeeper who is sharp off his line, comfortable on the ball and a confident character who looks ready to step into Nick Pope's shoes.
