Antonio Cordero set for loan move to European giants after joining Newcastle?

With the level of quality currently within our senior squad and our academy going from strength to strength, it’s an exciting time to be a Newcastle fan.

Given the depth and quality we have in certain positions, it’s not hard to see why certain young talent could head out on loan to further their development, rather than spend too much time on the bench or at Under-21 level.

Whether it’s Garang Kuol or imminent new arrivals Vakhtang Salia or Antonio Cordero, loan moves will be secured this summer – and it looks like the latter may be handed a fantastic opportunity to further his development at senior level next season.

Antonio Cordero to join Dutch giants?

After it was revealed last month that Newcastle have won the race to sign Antonio Cordero, it seems the club have already been working on a loan move for the Spaniard.

The Malaga winger is expected on Tyneside next month, where he’ll complete a free transfer from Spain, but it’s believed Dutch giants Ajax could have him on loan for the 2025/26 campaign.

Spanish outlet AS reveal that the current Eredivise leaders are ‘best-placed’ to land the exciting 18-year-old, with Newcastle feeling this could be an ideal place for him to ‘grow and develop.’

The report states that the Amsterdam outfit have been interested in the winger since last December and were amongst the list of potential suitors for Cordero before he opted to join Newcastle over Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Eredivisie loans a hit and miss destination!

In recent memory, the Eredivise has been massively hit and miss for players we’ve loaned there.

Yankuba Minteh was fantastic for Feyenoord under Arne Slot, which saw him return to England with much hype surrounding the Gambian winger before he sealed a £30m move to Brighton.

But in the case of Garang Kuol, the Australian only managed 15 appearances and a single goal for Volendam, but has since enjoyed a mini resurgence back at Benton in our U-21s.

Hopes are high for Cordero, whose produced some heroic moments for Malaga in the past few weeks, and looks to have embedded himself well into Spain’s U-19s ahead of the upcoming Euros.

The first of many Paul Mitchell gems, we hope, and if his journey to the top makes a temporary stop in Amsterdam, then it could be amazing for his development as a player.
