Newcastle star set to snub PSG with potential new contract on the cards – Report

PSG have been one of the most alluring teams in club football this season, and it’s not hard to see why.

With an ambitious project coupled with exciting football, Luis Enrique’s French champions should have no worries about attracting the players they want this summer.

That is except for one Newcastle star, who according to a new report is very keen to stay on Tyneside for the foreseeable future.

PSG target wants Toon stay

According to the i’s Mark Douglas, Dutch defender Sven Botman is set on staying at Newcastle despite fresh interest from PSG over a potential move.

It’s more good news following on from our recent win over Chelsea, where the Dutchman played a starring role in the first hour of the game in what was only his fourth start of the campaign.

The victory has put us within three points of Champions League football next season, which could be key in keeping a number of key players happy and may be used as a tool in future contract negotiations.

It’s understood that the club held informal contract discussions with the player last year when PSG’s interest first came about, only for ACL surgery to cut his season short.

But any future negotiations are likely to hinge on the former Lille man getting past his recent injury woes, with 2025/26 set to be a big one for the 25-year-old after two knee operations over the last season and a half.

First Botman, who’s next?

Being on the precipice of Champions League football is one thing, but securing it for next season will go along way to attracting big names and keeping our current ones.

Botman already chose Newcastle in the past over AC Milan, but knowing he’s potentially in it for the long run as we continue to rise is a very assuring sign that we’re doing the right things.

But who could be next this summer in terms of locking down players with the prospect of European football?

Alexander Isak seems like a no-brainer, as a player of his calibre warrants playing on club football’s biggest stage.

We’re still some time away from the likes of Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton approaching renewal (each player’s current deal runs until 2028) but the financial reward of qualifying could be used to help keep the Premier League’s best midfield all together for many more years.
