£12.5m clause set to become active if Newcastle target goes down this weekend - Report
All eyes on the Premier League this weekend will be on the race for Europe, with the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League spots yet to be decided.
We know who has won the title and who has gone down, but it'll also be a dramatic weekend across Europe as La Liga sides battle to stay up and both Inter Milan and Napoli head into the final day fighting for the Serie A title.
In Spain, the relegation scrap could have a major impact on one emerging Toon target, as reports on the Continent have revealed over the last 24 hours...
New release clause claims
According to reports in Spain, Newcastle target Joan Garcia could become available at an even lower fee should Espanyol suffer relegation this weekend.
As things stand, a €30m (£25m) release clause exists in the goalkeeper's contract, but it's now emerged from Sport that his buyout fee will drop to a bargain €15m (£12.5m) should his side go down.
17th place Espanyol (39 points) currently need to beat Las Palmas on the final day to stay up, or at least match 18th place Leganes' (37 points) result against Valladolid on Saturday night.
As for Newcastle's interest, Sport state that the club are 'very serious' about bringing the 24-year-old to St James' Park this summer, but recent reports suggest Aston Villa, Arsenal and a number of top La Liga clubs are also in the mix.

Bargains could boost spending elsewhere
Earlier this month, The Telegraph revealed that Newcastle are huge admirers of Bryan Mbeumo and would love to sign the Brentford star, but realise it would be tricky to strike a £60m deal AND make several big money moves elsewhere.
It seems the club plan to sigh a striker, right winger, centre-back and goalkeeper this summer and The Mail's Craig Hope recently revealed that Burnley stopper James Trafford could cost £30m.
With all of that in mind, a £12.5m deal for Garcia would be the sort of cut-price deal that may free up funds to spend big elsewhere on a quality centre-back, right winger and striker, should Espanyol go down.
Newcastle's PSR position is much improved and there is a belief we're in for an ambitious summer, but picking up a few bargains here and there could be priceless for Paul Mitchell to make our budget go further.
