Newcastle consider surprise Garang Kuol move after rollercoaster few years - Report
It's been an up-and-down few years for Aussie talent Garang Kuol.
After starring in the A-League for Central Coast Mariners, breaking into the Australia national team, appearing at the World Cup and sealing a big move to Newcastle United, he was living the teenage dream.
However, after a few tough loan spells - one in Scotland with Hearts and the other at Dutch side Volendam - and much of 2024/25 spent rebuilding himself in our Under-21 side, it has always felt like 2025/26 could be a big one for the 20-year-old forward
His next loan move will surely be vital to his Newcastle hopes and that was expected to be the plan, although it is no longer clear if he'll even be given that chance.
Early Kuol exit on the cards?
According to The Athletic, Newcastle United could opt to sell Aussie talent Garang Kuol this summer - despite suggestions he could be handed another loan move.
A lot may depend on interest and potential options for a third (and potentially final) loan move to see if he has any chance of making it on Tyneside, but it's certainly been a rollercoaster few years for the forward.
Since moving from the other side of the world in a £300,000 deal, he's struggled for game time across two loan moves at Hearts and Volendam, although the latter and most recent loan saw the manager and director that signed him depart just a few months after his arrival.
That was unsettling and impacted a spell that had started promisingly, then he suffered an injury during last summer's pre-season camp, blocking his hopes of a third temporary switch.
Instead, he knuckled down in our Under-21s and showed he was too good for that level, scoring five and assisting four in 10 Premier League 2 appearances.
Based on that and his early promise in the A-League, Newcastle must now decide whether to loan him out again - or cash in should any buyers come our way.
Mixed success so far with 'project signings'
The new buzzword for certain Newcastle arrivals seems to be 'project' players.
Young, talented and low-cost teenagers who can either impress and be sold for a quick profit, or go on to become part of Eddie Howe's senior team.
Yankuba Minteh was a success in a sense, as he made us over £25m in the space of 12 months following his sale to Brighton.
Serbian Miodrag Pivas is struggling for game time at Eredivisie side Willem II, playing a staggering 30 minutes of league football all season.
Malaga's Antonio Cordero is the latest to arrive and will sign 'officially' on July 1st. He will be loaned out this summer and Ajax have been linked, with Georgian forward Vakhtang Salia due to follow a similar path when he signs on his 18th birthday in August from Dinamo Tiblisi.
