Toon NOT pursuing three reported targets – but two exciting options being discussed

It’s going to be a wild ride this summer for us Newcastle United fans.

Of course, we all hope the transfer window goes smoothly, seeing us land top targets and act swiftly in the market to prepare us for what promises to be a busy but exciting 2025/25 season.

However, there will be twists and turns, highs and lows, and a number of transfer links that get us talking one minute, then turn out to be nothing more than paper talk.

On that subject, it seems a few recent rumours have been played down, for now at least by the club, while two exciting names have been discussed in our search for a new right winger.

Three transfer links played down

According to The Athletic, Newcastle are NOT considering a move for Dominic Calvert-Lewin at this stage.

The Everton striker is set to leave the Toffees this summer and become available on a free transfer, but it’s believed he isn’t someone the club are looking to sign, despite previous interest from Eddie Howe.

Two other attacking ‘targets’ are also played down in the report, which sates that Chelsea’s Noni Madueke is not currently under consideration for that right winger slot.

Elsewhere, the club continue to distance themselves from a deal to sign Jack Grealish. Chris Waugh insists that Newcastle ‘do no hold an interest’ in the Man City winger, despite ongoing talk of a loan move should Gordon or Barnes depart.

Two Premier League wingers discussed

Although Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga appears to have emerged as a leading target, he’s not the only Premier League winger we’re looking at now Bryan Mbeumo has proved too costly.

The Athletic report that West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus and Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo have both been discussed during recruitment meetings.

Much like Lille’s Lucas Chevalier being an option if top goalkeeper target James Trafford doesn’t sign, these are two players the club may look at if a deal can’t be agreed for Elanga.

However, as ever with the Premier League market, both Semenyo and Kudus would not come cheap, leaving us wonder if an overseas surprise may emerge, much like it did with Alexander Isak and Sandro Tonali.

  1. The problem we will have in recruiting is down to the “ Big 6” being able to outbid us and offering a higher wage structure as well as hijacking our targets.
Only Manure are unable to offer Champions League football but that doesn’t seem to hinder them.
Our best chance I feel seems to be going under the radar abroad, we are however not the only ones being held to ransom when you look at Liverpool’s situation, but these established Big 6 still manage together business done before us.
They just appear to be better organised than us.

  2. We’ve been under the radar both at home, Barnes, & in Europe, Tonali, in recent years, I fully expect them to do both again. Ignore the media, the club don’t work through them like others do so it’s mainly guesswork from them.
