Crystal Palace eye shock move for Eddie Howe signing - Another early exit lined up?

Newcastle United haven't completed a major first team signing for three windows now, with outgoings being more of a theme in recent years.

We've seen Will Osula arrive as a 'project player' in a £10m move rising to £15m, Odysseas Vlachodimos come in through the back door in a PSR-driven deal, John Ruddy sign on a free and Lewis Hall loan move turn permanent.

But another recent arrival saw Lloyd Kelly come in on a free transfer after he left Bournemouth 12 months ago. Eddie Howe's first signing of the 2024 summer window has already been and gone, however, with a permanent move to Juventus now confirmed. But could he be on his way back to England?

Kelly linked with Premier League return

After reports in Italy revealed last week that Juventus are now looking to sell Lloyd Kelly this summer, another outlet has named a potential Premier League destination for the defender.

According to Tuttosport and Juve-based publication Il Bianconero, Kelly is now receiving interest from Crystal Palace.

They report that Palace are keen to strengthen the left side of their defence, not only due to Marc Guehi's future being up in the air but due to their lack of left-backs now Ben Chilwell has returned to Chelsea following a loan spell.

It's believed Palace are monitoring his availability, with the 26-year-old tipped to exit the Serie A giants now Cristiano Giuntoli - the man who negotiated his loan-to-buy move in January - has departed Juventus.

Could Juve do Newcastle another favour?

It's paper talk at this point, but it would be interesting to see if a move to Palace would benefit Newcastle in any way.

It would be the biggest heist of 2025 if we included a sell-on clause (!), but we're more considering how it could benefit our pursuit of Marc Guehi should Kelly join Palace.

As a left-footed centre-back, you'd assume he would play in the role Guehi currently takes up in Oliver Glasner's side, although some would argue they'd aim higher should they look to replace the England international.
