Howe pushing for £100m+ double deal as Newcastle learn Anthony Elanga price - Report

The summer window doesn't officially reopen again until Monday 16th June after a short break, but it feels like Newcastle's transfer plans are starting to pick up.

Earlier today, The Telegraph revealed that Newcastle are receiving encouragement over a pursuit of Brighton forward Joao Pedro, growing in confidence that a deal could be struck, with the player keen on a move and the Seagulls open to a sale.

That piece also contained additional details of Eddie Howe's push to sign not only Pedro but Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga, with the boss feeling both would offer a major boost to two key attacking areas ahead of our return to the Champions League next season.

Luke Edwards states that Nottingham Forest would like to keep Elanga, but Newcastle are now aware of the player's price tag, with the Reds' asking price thought to be set at around £50m.

He also suggests that Elanga is emerging as the leading target, moving ahead of two players previously discussed in Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo and West Ham's Mohammed Kudus.

On Wednesday, Craig Hope revealed that Newcastle had sent representatives to the Midlands this week to discuss a deal, which was described as 'still alive' by The Mail journalist.

If that's true and there is also belief that Brighton and Newcastle are not far apart in their valuations of £60m-rated Joao Pedro, we can only hope progress is made on both potential signings over the coming days, especially with the window set to reopen on Monday.

As for James Trafford, The Telegraph report that the signing of a goalkeeper is lower down the priority list, meaning the club will not overpay for the England talent if Burnley's £40m asking price does not come down.
