Watch Will Osula’s goal & assist at U21 Euros to complete late comeback

The UEFA Euro U-21s are up and running, and a couple of our young Magpies will be hoping to do their countries proud in the tournament.

Tino Livramento will be looking to dazzle in defence for Lee Carsley’s England, where he’s arguably the best defender in the entire tournament based on his man of the match display in a 3-1 win over Czechia last night.

But Will Osula grabbed the headlines first in yesterday's 5pm kick-off, being at the heart of some late drama and the difference-maker in what will hopefully be a breakout tournament for the 21-year-old.

Osula the hero on Thursday night

Osula grabbed a goal and assist in a 25-minute substitute cameo as Denmark's U-21s completed a late comeback thanks to the heroic of Newcastle United's young striker.

Coming on in the 71st minute with the scores level at 1-1, Maksym Braharu put the Ukrainians 2-1 up with a little over 10 minutes to go.

But just minutes later, Osula cut the ball back for William Böving who equalised from just outside of the box to draw Denmark level before the 6ft 4' striker came up with a poachers finish in the 87th minute to make it 3-2.

Watch highlights here, showing Osula's assist at 3:30 and his winning goal at 4:05, which thankfully stood after a VAR check.

What next for Osula and Denmark?

Steffen Højer’s side are in a tough group with a much-fancied Netherlands side and Finland still to play, but it’s a good start for Osula, who would've started the game frustrated to be on the bench, then on cloud nine after a goal and assist.

If both Osula’s Denmark and Livramento’s England were to top their respective groups, they will end up on opposite sides of the draw, and won’t be able to meet until the final in Bratislava.

If one of the two countries were to finish in 2nd, however, then there’s a chance we could see our two youngsters face off for a place in the semi-final later on in the tournament.

A couple dates in the diary for our fans: Denmark will play the Netherlands on Sunday the 15th of June, and close out their group on Wednesday the 18th against Finland.

With Osula’s heroics last night, you’d fancy him to get many more minutes as the tournament unfolds.
