Watch Will Osula score TWICE as Denmark stun Netherlands at U21 Euros

Will Osula was again the match winner for his country as his brace helped Denmark earn another huge win in their U-21 EURO campaign.

Having grabbed the winner in Denmark’s opener against Ukraine, one header and a calm low finish from the 21-year-old was enough to complete a 2-1 comeback against a much-fancied Netherlands side.

The goals have moved Osula into second place for the tournament golden boot, with only Germany’s Nick Woltemade ahead of our young Magpie.

Osula’s efforts have also guaranteed Denmark a spot in the round of 16, where a possible tie with England and Tino Livramento could be in Osula’s future…

Having made only a 20 minute cameo midweek against Ukraine, Osula was given the nod by Steffen Højer to start up top on Sunday night.

But the game got off to the worst possible start for the Danes, as an early own goal from Lazio’s Oliver Provstgaard gave the Dutch the lead.

Yet similar to the Ukraine game, Osula was in the right place at the right time to help kickstart the turnaround for his country: first finding Oliver Sørensen’s powerful cross to convert from close range and make it 1-1.

Some wonderful football from Isak Jensen and Oscar Fraulo then allowed Osula to be one-on-one with the Dutch goalkeeper, sliding the ball underneath just after the start of the second half to make it 2-1 and seal all three points.

It was a particularly strong performance from Osula considering a couple of the opposing defenders he found himself up against: alongside Aston Villa’s Ian Maatsen was the highly-regarded Jorrel Hato from Ajax.

Hato has Champions League experience and was a name we’ve been briefly linked with this window, yet he struggled to cope with Osula's pace, pressing and movement.

What next for Osula and Denmark?

On Wednesday night, Osula and Denmark will close out their group stage against Finland, having already been assured of qualification to the quarter-finals top of Group D.

Thanks to their superior head to head record, even a Denmark defeat against Finland wouldn’t be enough for Ukraine to overtake if they were to beat the Netherlands in that important clash.

So we’ll just have to see if Osula gets the nod midweek to continue his fine goalscoring form, or if he gets rested for the knockout rounds ahead.

If Tino Livramento and England were to finish behind Germany in 2nd place in their group, then this would put both our EURO representatives in the same half of the draw, where they could meet in the semi-final in Košice.
