Fears at Newcastle that top target is now stalling on potential move - Report
The summer transfer window can be exciting and exhausting in equal measure.
Some days we hear reports that a big signing is edging closer, other days it's a bleak update or news that a target is heading elsewhere.
The latter has been the case for Liam Delap, who opted for Chelsea, and it seems Liverpool are now in pole position to land Marc Guehi, despite long-term interest from Newcastle and a number of bids last summer.
But what about Joao Pedro? On Thursday, Mark Douglas offered a positive update in the iPaper, claiming our pursuit of the Brighton forward is "advancing", with Newcastle in 'pole position' to beat Chelsea to a deal.
However, if The Telegraph's Luke Edwards is to be believed, Newcastle are concerned the Brazilian is stalling on a move to St James' Park.
He reports that there are fears that the 23-year-old would prefer to live in London and may hold out for Chelsea, rather than commit to a summer move to Newcastle. See the snippet from his piece below:
'A move for Brighton’s Joao Pedro has been made but there are fears the forward would prefer to live in London and is waiting for Chelsea to firm up their interest rather than commit to Newcastle at this early stage of the summer.'
Whether this is true or not remain to be seen, but it is a tiresome reasons and real concern if the player is already having doubts about a move to Tyneside.
Hopefully there 'fears' are soon allayed and the South American would happily join fellow countrymen Bruno and big Joe in the North East, as any bidding war with Chelsea may have a familiar end should we allow the free-spending Blues to muscle their way in.
