Newcastle in talks to complete July signing - Major transfer hint from Fabrizio Romano
An intriguing update has arrived on the Newcastle United transfer front from Fabrizio Romano today.
In some respects, it may seem like nothing new, but it includes an interesting detail that may explain why Newcastle haven't pulled off a major signing so far this month.
Romano reveals that Newcastle and Burnley are currently in negotiations over a deal for goalkeeper James Trafford.
This has been public knowledge for a few weeks now, but Romano states that the deal can happen 'from July', suggesting we are waiting for the new PSR cycle to kick in before pressing the green button deals?
As a result, Romano states that club-to-club talks will continue and a potential transfer is 'expected to accelerate from next week.'
This could be a significant update that explains our lack of spending over the first month of the window, as the new three-year PSR cycle - starting in July - will see a loss of £73m from the 2021/22 season drop off.
Regarding Trafford and the fee it may take, reports emerged almost two weeks ago that Newcastle were threatening to walk away from a deal if Burnley's valuation close to £40m did not come down.
Perhaps this is a sign both clubs are now working on a compromise, as any agreement on a price could pave the way for a deal to be struck and signed off at the start of July?
