Sesko reaches agreement with Newcastle & Man Utd - Over to RB Leizpig after two bids?
Some journalists have called today 'D-day' in the Benjamin Sesko saga.
Either way, we need to find out very soon whether our bid is going to be accepted and who he REALLY wants to sign, with this the latest transfer tussle to drag on for weeks on end.
Newcastle launched a £70m (up front) bid last night, which included add-ons that could take the overall package to just over £78m (€90m).
Today, David Ornstein, along with many other in the media, has confirmed that Man Utd have finally made their move and launched a formal bid.
Man Utd's offer is an initial £65m, plus around £9m in add-ons, meaning a total package worth £74m (€85m) and around £4m less than Newcastle's proposal.
To make the situation even more chaotic, Sky Sports in Germany say that Sesko has now reached a verbal agreement with both Newcastle AND Man Utd, with chief reporter Florian Plettenberg now stating that it will now 'mainly depend' on who can reach an agreement with RB Leipzig:
'Understand Benjamin #Sesko and his camp have reached full verbal agreements with both Manchester United and Newcastle over a long-term contract. Final details were settled yesterday.
'It now mainly depends on which club also reaches an agreement with RB Leipzig. Man United are offering €85 million, Newcastle €90 million. Decisive hours ahead.'
Sesko is set to make his final decision soon, although we also must factor in that Leipzig have two major bids to consider, one of which from Newcastle is slightly more lucrative.
We'll soon know more, but one worry is the new wording of reports from Ornstein and Keith Downie, who both suggest that the player is leaning towards Man Utd; at least that's what 'sources' in Manchester think.
What a mess. We'll know more soon, but it feels vital we FINALLY win out against a 'big six' rival after a summer full of setbacks.
