Fake news! - Keith Downie hits out at Newcastle story from Sky Sports Germany

After a slow summer in regards to signings, things may finally be stating to pick up for Newcastle United.

With the opening game of the Premier League campaign against Aston Villa on the horizon, it's highly unlikely that we have a new striker in position to start, leaving Anthony Gordon likely to lead the line.

The good news is that Yoane Wissa is edging closer to a £35m move from Brentford, as Sky Sports Keith Downie revealed today.

However, the North East reporter has hit out at some inaccurate reporting from his colleagues over in Sky Germany, claiming Newcastle are being caught up in 'silly season' regarding our search for TWO new strikers.

Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg claimed earlier this afternoon that Newcastle had opened concrete talks with PSG to sign French forward Randal Kolo Muani this summer.

The 26-year-old spent the first half of 2025 on loan at Italian giants Juventus, scoring eight in 16 games, and is out of favour at PSG a few years on from an eye-watering £82m move from Frankfurt.

But, responding to the report in an update on X, Newcastle correspondent Downie has hit back, claiming Newcastle are not in talks and are NOT even interested in the striker!

He said: 'Clearly SILLY SEASON! Some strange stuff knocking about on here today… Newcastle are not interested in Randal Kolo Muani — and have not made an approach to sign him.'
