Alexander Isak set for Newcastle United punishment - Report

As things stand, Alexander Isak will not be playing against Aston Villa in Newcastle United's opening game of the 2025/26 Premier League campaign.

Still yearning for his dream move to Liverpool, the Swede has refused to train with the rest of the squad, and of course missed the entirety of pre-season out of protest.

From his electrifying debut at Anfield, to the winning goal in the Carabao Cup final, it's almost poetic that another defining moment of Alexander Isak's Newcastle career would come about because Liverpool.

But now things might start to get worse before they get better, as the club prepares to finally punish the striker for the recent debacle. With two weeks to go of the transfer window, is there any chance of things getting resolved in time?

Newcastle's planned fine for Alexander Isak revealed

According to The Mail's Craig Hope, Alexander Isak is indeed set to miss our trip to Villa Park, and will subsequently invoke a fine from the club for missing the huge fixture.

Hope confirms "As of last weekend, he had not been disciplined by way of a club fine. We understand that will change if he misses a competitive match, as he will this weekend."

This does mean that Isak has still been collecting his £140,000 per week wages for the entirety of his self-imposed absence from the senior squad.

But come August 16th, we're officially in the competitive swing of things, and with Liverpool and Leeds still to come later this month, another pair of fines could be set to come Isak's way.

Club see four scenarios in striker's future

With the great fear that Isak has indeed kicked his last ball for the club, the divide between the player and the club has never been larger.

Hope reports that Isak's camp have told the striker to continue to hold his ground and push for the move to Merseyside, an action that has been met with great disappointment by those on Tyneside.

Those close to the situation see four possible scenarios moving forward: the most probable being that we gamble on Isak returning to the squad on September 1st once the transfer window has shut, where he would slowly be integrated back into the squad ahead of our Champions League efforts.

Other avenues considered are that the 25-year-old has a change of heart and signs a contract extension with a release clause or promise of a move included, or that we continue to work behind the scenes on bringing two new forwards in and allowing Isak to be sold.

The worst case scenario still remains that we sell Isak for the sake of squad harmony without having a replacement lined up: even if our current stance is that he's not for sale, and that an 'unhappy' Isak is still better than any striker available on the market, the damage he has done to derail our pre-season preparation simply cannot be forgotten or forgiven.
