Jacob Ramsey en route to sign for Newcastle United - Full details
Newcastle United look set to make it two signings in a week after another much-needed breakthrough in the transfer market.
After Malick Thiaw's £34m move from AC Milan was announced on Tuesday night, the club have now struck a full agreement to sign Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey.
Talks have been taking place over the last 48 hours and an agreement worth £40m has now been reached, although that figure differs depending on who you believe.
The Mail's Craig Hope reports that a £38m deal is in place, while Keith Downie of Sky Sports suggests it's £39m plus £4m in add-ons.
Fabrizio Romano has given the proposed move the 'here we go!' seal of approval, describing it as a 'done deal' with a fee agreed and personal terms not a problem.
Ramsey is now travelling to the North East to complete a medical, although he'll face a race against time to be registered in time for Saturday's 12.30pm kick-off at Villa Park, ironically.
Craig Hope reports that it's 'very unlikely' he'll be registered in time. The deadline is 12pm on Friday and he is due to arrive today and complete his medical across tonight and tomorrow morning, giving us little time to complete the formalities.
But it's a solid signing that strengthens our midfield options, especially down that left side, and another long-term target of Eddie Howe's.
Romano reports that Ramsey was eager to join the Newcastle project, which offers the chance for the former England U21 star to develop under Eddie Howe and play in the UEFA Champions League this coming season.
