Howe confirms signing of Aston Villa's Jacob Ramsey - "He's a player we love"

Eddie Howe has been speaking to the media following today's 0-0 draw at Aston Villa in our opening game of the 2025/26 season.

It was a positive performance and encouraging display, although we leave wondering what could've been, with many convinced that it would've been a comfortable win and three big points had Alexander Isak turned up!

There are more positives to share, however, as Howe spoke freely about the imminent arrival of Jacob Ramsey, even if he hasn't 'officially' signed.

The boss admitted the 24-year-old is a "player we love" and "outstanding" addition to our midfield, feeling he'll add much-needed depth and quality to our squad after Sean Longstaff's sale and Joe Willock's injury.

Speaking from Villa Park, Howe said:

"[Ramsey] is a player we love.

"He'll offer a lot more strength and depth in that midfield area.

"Having lost Sean and Joe Willock to injury, that's an area that we've been concerned about through the second half of pre-season.

"He's an outstanding player."

Ramsey was on Tyneside on Friday taking pictures at St James' Park after completing his medical, but did not sign in time (12pm Friday) to feature in today's game at Villa Park.
