Howe on Nick Woltemade, more signings & Alexander Isak - First quotes on Friday

Eddie Howe has been speaking to the media this morning - and there is a fair bit to talk about!

The Champions League draw last night, updates on the injury front, a look ahead to Leeds...and the small matter of Newcastle closing in on the signing of £69m striker Nick Woltemade.

The good news is that Woltemade's move is progressing nicely as he undergoes a medical as we speak, but it sounds like the Stuttgart star will NOT be signed (12pm deadline) or ready to play tomorrow.

"Things are moving in the right direction (with Woltemade) and developing in a good way at the moment.

"Until things are done, I can’t say anything."

"(Will he be available vs Leeds United?) I don’t think that is going to be possible due to lots of reasons I don't understand."

Asked about more signings, with second striker wanted, and the potential knock-on impact on Alexander Isak's future, Howe confirmed Newcastle are still active in the market.

The boss was unable to give clarity on Isak's future, however, amid reports that Liverpool's second offer could now be imminent:

“Positive signs. We are still looking, there is still a chance to improve squad."

"It's difficult to give any clarity on (Isak) future. I'm not dealing with it myself."

"It's for other people to decide. I'm not in control of those discussions or decisions."

Yoane Wissa is thought to remain a key target as we look for that Callum Wilson replacement, while Liverpool have been linked with a £130m bid for Isak, who doubled down on his wish to leave during a PIF meeting on Monday.
