Nottingham Forest’s season has gone from bad to worse in recent weeks, and we’ll be hoping that continues come Sunday tea time.
We take on Ange Postecoglou’s Reds this weekend in what could be the perfect time to play a Forest side struggling with injuries and any sign of new manager bounce, with “sacked in the morning” chants coming from some sections of the City Ground crowd on Thursday night.
Not only did Ange make it four defeats in six games as they were beaten 3-2 by Kevin Mbabu’s FC Midtjylland in the Europa League, Forest suffered another potential injury blow.
Having only just returned from a thigh issue, star centre-back Murillo hobbled off midway through the first half and could now miss Sunday’s trip to St James’ Park.
Murillo may add to Forest’s woes if he doesn’t recover in time, with right-back Ola Aina, left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko and midfielder Douglas Luiz also due to be absent through injury.
Asked about the Brazilian’s latest injury after Thursday night’s game, Postecoglou said: “I’m not sure. I haven’t seen him, so I’m not really sure what’s wrong with him.”
Discussing the trip to St James’ Park and their midweek defeat in Europe, Ange said: “It’s still pretty raw and fresh, but that is the reality of football. We have a game that we [need] to prepare for (at Newcastle).
“We’ve had the review this morning, and I gave my feedback to the players. Now, it is really important that we start preparing for a difficult game on Sunday.”
The Times report that Ange Postecoglou’s job will be under threat if he loses again this weekend, cranking up the pressure on a week where Newcastle gained momentum with a 4-0 win in the Champions League.
Let’s hope we can capitalise and head into the international break on a high!
