Watch Nick Woltemade’s moment of magic at Brighton as Howe hails 6ft 6″ German

If there’s any individual in the Newcastle squad who can hold their head high after yesterday’s display, it’s Nick Woltemade.

Chasing an equaliser late in the second half, a moment of magic from close range saw us finally beat Bart Verbruggen with a classy finish to draw us level before Welbeck won it for Brighton moments later.

It’s Woltemade’s fourth goal in just five Premier League starts, and his latest strike is well worth another look if anyone missed it on Match of the Day last night:

Speaking after the game, Eddie Howe could not give enough praise to the big German, but once again affirmed that the rest of the squad need to step up not only in terms of supplying Woltemade with opportunities, but scoring goals themselves.

On the goal, Nick’s all round display and what we need to see more of, Howe said: “It’s not your classic centre-forward’s goal.

“He has the ability to do these things. He’s a very good instinctive player in those moments, and it was an incredible goal.”

“He had other chances as well, it was good to see him be an aerial in the box from crosses. I thought his overall game was very strong today, I thought he played very well.”

“But we do need goals and creation from the other players as well.”
