Newcastle 2-1 Liverpool – Watch emotional highlights of THAT Wembley win, one year on

It’s hard to believe that it has already been a full year since Newcastle United’s historic Wembley win over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup Final.

We’re sure you all remember where you were on the day it happened, who you were with and what you were doing. Or at least have some fuzzy memories and vague recollections.

No doubt, like us, you’ve watched and rewatched the highlights from every broadcaster a thousand times over, maybe even watched the full game back several times, Eddie Howe style.

But it’s the anniversary, so here, watch some highlights again. We have, and things got a tad emotional. It was like living the day all over again.

Rival Fans have tried their best to diminish Newcastle’s huge achievement

We’ve had a year of rival fans trying to diminish this achievement, trying to downplay the significance of the League Cup, but tell that to Manchester City, who gave everything to knock us out of the competition this year in the semi-final.

It’s devastating that we came so close to defending our crown and that we won’t be at Wembley on Sunday to do so.

Instead, we’ll be at St James’ Park hoping to finally put some daylight between us at the Great Unwashed in the Premier League, which isn’t a bad day out to be fair.

There’s a deeper reason behind reminding you all of this massive day

While things haven’t gone quite as well for us this season as last, there’s still plenty of football to be played, and watching the highlights of this monumental day reinforces that ‘Never say die’ attitude that Newcastle has these days.

Nobody gave us a chance last year. We went into that game as the underdogs, and we came out as top dogs.

This is exactly the spirit that we need to embrace ahead of Wednesday’s massive game at Barcelona on Wednesday as we look to progress in the Champions League, and it’s the same spirit we need to harness for the remainder of the season, because after that win against Chelsea, that European dream is still very much alive.
