Our feelings on Lewis Hall are well documented at this point, but in case you’ve missed it, we think the sun shines out of his eyes.
The Newcastle United left-back has been phenomenal this season, and it literally feels like he gets better with every game.
What’s perhaps even more scary is that he’s still growing, still learning and is only likely to get better. That means Newcastle are going to have to do everything in their power to keep him on Tyneside.
His love for the club will only keep him here for so long. We need to match his level on and off the pitch with recruitment, stadium, training facilities and trophies.
Hall has been highlighted all season as the bright spot in Newcastle’s season, with practically every debate over England’s starting left-back for the World Cup ending in an agreement that Lewis Hall is the man.
Jason Cundy says Lewis Hall could play anywhere
Jason Cundy is the latest to add his voice to that particular choir on talkSPORT, by singing the ex-Chelsea defender’s praises, even going as far as to say he could play for Real Madrid.
Not really what we want to hear, as Newcastle have zero interest in letting the left-back leave, but it shows how highly-regarded the England talent now is.
“I think that consistently, Lewis Hall has been, without a doubt, for me, the best English left back in the country.
“He has had a brilliant season, he’s top drawer all over the pitch. He attacks, his positional sense, his weight of cross, his pass, his energy levels…
“He knows when to support the wide man, knows when to overlap, he’s a brilliant player.
“Lewis Hall, from when I saw him at Chelsea to now…I think he could actually move to a top five or six club in the world.
“I think he’s got that in him, I’m not joking, he could be at Real Madrid. I think he could be that good. It’s a big statement, but I’ve seen him develop and Newcastle fans won’t thank me for saying this, but he really is that good.
“I think he could [go on to play for Real Madrid]. You think about other left-backs around the world, we’ll see this summer where he really is. He is top, top drawer.”
Why can’t we have nice things?
It’s nothing new to have our top players being told they could play for ‘better’ clubs, but it still grates every time we see it.
This is exactly what we mean by Newcastle needing to match Hall’s levels. If we become this powerhouse club by 2030, a la David Hopkinson’s bold statement, then perhaps pundits will stop talking about our players being good enough to play elsewhere and naming us as one of the clubs other players should be aspiring to play for.
Unfortunately, the reality is, we’re nowhere near that level yet, and that’s what will make keeping hold of the likes of Lewis Hall difficult.
However, we’re pretty confident that it’s not something we’re going to have to worry about this year, at least.

Rentagob has zero understanding of identity! Probably the one thing that has failed to register is where Lewis comes from and I don’t mean Chelsea ๐
