Chris Hughton interested in signing TWO Newcastle players for Nottingham Forest – Reports

A week after he took the job at Nottingham Forest, the Northern Echo claimed that Chris Hughton was keen to sign Newcastle United winger Christian Atsu.

Now, a few months on, The Chronicle report that he’s also interested in bringing Matty Longstaff to the City Ground on loan.

The pair have managed just 39 minutes of football all season, with Matty’s only appearance being from the bench in our 2-0 defeat at Southampton last month.

As for Atsu, he was left out of Steve Bruce’s 25-man squad and will be looking for a permanent move next month now, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.

It would be useful to get some sort of fee for Atsu while we can, but Matty Longstaff’s situation is without doubt the more pressing matter.

Although he eventually signed a new deal late in the summer, it was only a two-year contract – and he’ll hardly be convinced by the lack of game time he’s been afforded to far this season, making a January loan something we must surely consider.

Hughton is an experienced manager with good links to the club and a big task on his hands to turn around Forest’s fortunes, so hopefully we can do a deal or two with him in January.

After all, regularly game time at Championship level is just what Matty needs and we could do with getting Atsu’s wages off our books.
