Tim Krul delivers heartfelt goodbye to NUFC fans and reveals why he had to leave for Brighton

Tim Krul has sent a heartfelt message to Newcastle fans after his 11 year spell on Tyneside came to end this summer, thanking the Toon Army for a ‘major chapter’ in his life, also revealing just why he chose to leave for Brighton.

The Dutchman joined the club as a 17-year old, ending up playing 185 times – experiencing relegation and Europa League quarter finals – and even developing a Geordie accent along the way!

His loan move to Brighton was made permanent last week and the 29-year old has had this to say to the Newcastle United fans following his move away from the North-East:

“Just what I said in my tweet – a massive thank you. They were there for me through the bad times and the good times.

“It’s been an amazing journey, a rollercoaster. It’s never dull there, for sure. I’ll probably move back there after my career.

“I can’t say anything but praise. It’s a second home. I came as a 17-year-old. I got married there and my little girl was born there.

“It’s major chapter in my life.”

There’s little doubt Tim became an adopted Geordie during his time on Tyneside, however his time in the team had been up for some time prior to him leaving.

He’s now been reunited with ex-NUFC boss Chris Hughton at Brighton, and has admitted why he had to take the offer to join the Seagulls this summer:

“It was an opportunity in the Premier League, which is what I wanted,

“I wanted to stay at the highest level. I’ve obviously worked with Chris before, so I knew what I was going to get. I liked what they were saying.

“They’ve got a great team spirit and some great players as well. It’s definitely a club on the up.

“Obviously, Harps was here for a month. The first thing he said was that there were some really good people here and that the facilities were great.

“He said I’d love it. The set-up’s amazing here.”

I’ve always had a lot of time for Tim. He seems a nice character and down to earth bloke who always understood what it meant to play for Newcastle United. From what he’s said, it sounds like we might see him back in our neck of the woods one day.

His 11-year spell at the club has ended a little ungracefully given his superb service, but he’s secured the move he needed and it appears the right move for all parties.
