After eight years, attacker set to leave Newcastle United this summer

Newcastle United are ready to dispense with the services of Sammy Ameobi this summer, according to reports from the Shields Gazette

Ameobi followed in the footsteps of his older brother, Shola, by joining Newcastle United back in 2008 and the young attacker was able to break into the Magpies’ first team back in 2010.

While Ameobi has gone on to make a total of 66 appearances for the Magpies since, the 24-year-old has not quite been able to establish himself at St. James’ Park and it was unclear as to whether he would be in the plans of manager Rafael Benitez this season following a fairly successful loan spell at Cardiff City.

According to reports from the Shields Gazette, revelations can be made that Benitez has decided that Ameobi is not a player he wants to keep hold of and he now looks set for a move away from St. James’ Park.

It remains to be seen as to whether Ameobi will leave on loan or on a permanent deal but with the attacker having only a year remaining on his current contract, Newcastle will probably want to cash in on their youth product.
